554 Des Meurons, Circa 1906
Our
building, was built between 1906 and 1908 by Joseph Gauthier, a stonecutter
who also worked on the St. Boniface Basilica. We assume he is the gentleman
standing with the two children at the side of the building.
Notice only one of the three Tyndall stone staircases has been installed at this point. The stone pillars are also not up yet. They are laying on the ground, and he is holding one of the pieces that will eventually cap the pillars. Take note also of the wooden sidewalk running in front of the building.
